For managed service providers (MSPs) serving the healthcare and insurance industries, it's crucial they understand all the complexities and challenges involved with the federal Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) to ensure they and their clients are HIPAA-compliant.

HIPAA is the essence of health information privacy for Americans. The ethical health research and privacy protectionisms it provides have enormous benefits for both individual patients and medical firms and their employees.

That's why I'm delighted and honored to join the team of contributors who write for BlogHIPAA.com, an important and distinguished online resource that provides educational content dedicated to keeping businesses, medical practitioners, and the technology firms that serve them up-to-date on all things related to the Act.

For MSPs that serve the healthcare and insurance industries, or any business that must be HIPAA-compliant, it's crucial that they too understand all the complexities, challenges, and opportunities involved.

And there are boundless opportunities for MSPs within the scope of HIPAA. For example, in December 2014 the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) found that technology helped to accelerate the adoption of certified electronic health record technology among hospitals and providers. The HHS estimated 93 percent of eligible hospitals and 76 percent of eligible physicians and medical professionals are taking part in its electronic health records-focused incentive programs. That poses real opportunity for MSPs to help thousands of healthcare firms with their technology needs.

Whether I'm writing about security- and privacy-related concerns, or conducting live webinars aimed at discussing general technology best practices, through my contributions at BlogHIPAA.com I hope to help MSPs improve their practices, and in turn, better serve their clients.

On that note, if there's a HIPAA-related issue you'd like for me to delve into, or if you have a specific question you'd like to ask on how best to market your business to the healthcare industry, get in touch.
