Change Your MSP’s Mindset About Marketing and You’ll See Success
How many MSP marketing companies have you worked with in the past? Have you seen the results? If not, this could be your real problem — and it’s not what you thought.
Like it or not, every business must think about marketing and sales. This goes for clothing companies, restaurants, web designers, landscapers, doctors, and yes — managed services providers.
This shouldn’t come as a shock to MSP owners, but over the years, we’ve found that it often does.
Time and again, we receive inquiries from MSPs who, in the past, have gone from marketing company to marketing company, switching constantly and looking for that elusive “golden ticket.” They want a marketing company that’s going to conduct magic. They seem to anticipate finding one who will be able to transform their marketing strategy into a constant flow of traffic, conversions, and profits. Leads, leads, leads — it’s all they want.
At the same time, however, these same MSPs decline the idea of looking inward in order to realize that they haven’t changed their own mindset toward sales and marketing one iota. And this is always their downfall.
So, exactly how should MSPs be changing their mindset?
First, let us say that we understand it’s not easy. Your business is information technology. That’s what you’re passionate about. It’s what you built your business on from the start, and it’s what you want to devote your time and energy to.
However, let us again state that every business must adopt a mindset toward marketing and sales. It certainly doesn’t have to take up all of your time, but you should cultivate a healthy relationship with this facet of your business.
Most importantly, you should cultivate a collaborative relationship with your marketing company — no matter which one you’re working with. Pick one and stick with them.
To do this, start by taking a look in the mirror. Do you position yourself for success in regard to how you approach marketing? Do you take your marketing company’s advice and do the following?
Enhance your online social media presence
Actively seek online reviews
Create SEO-based content for your site on a regular basis
Network and attend events related to your industry
Creating a successful marketing campaign is a collaborative effort. Unfortunately, you can’t just hand over the reins to your marketing company and be done with it. We’re here to help, but you have to do a lot of the work.
Even Google will tell you that themselves. They say right on their Google My Business Help website that all businesses who want to improve leads (improve SEO rankings) must do the following with their My Business account:
“Enter complete data”
“Verify your location(s)”
“Keep your hours accurate”
“Manage and respond to reviews”
And that’s just the tip of the iceberg.
You must change your business’s culture from that of a solely technical organization to that of technical organization with a marketing and sales mindset.
Of course, at Ulistic, we’re here to help. Any marketing company wants to help you gain traffic, leads, and conversions. But it’s always going to be a joint effort. The sooner you can realize this, the sooner you’re going to see extensive and long-lasting results.
