I have known many friends in the industry who have spent (not invested) thousands of dollars attending conferences, boot camps or whatever you call it and have not grown at all.
I wish I could sum it up better than my good friend Frank Allen, but Frank hits the nail on the head with his recent blog post.
We all rush out to the nearest IT conference or boot camp to build our library or make a deposit into our “intelligence account” but we often fall flat on our face when it comes to executing what we know.
Again, I know many friends in the industry who have fallen victim here, well not the victim but suffer from going to IT event after IT event and never move the chains (sorry, it is football season after all).
