It turns out the Microsoft didn’t hit a home run with Windows 8, which surprises virtually no one since they seem to have better success with every other operating system. Windows 95, no. Windows 98, yes. Windows 2000, no. Windows XP, yes. Vista, no. Windows 7, yes. Windows 8, no.
So Microsoft has just announced Windows 8.1, a faster-than-normal patch that’s more of an upgrade that addresses a lot of user complaints with Windows 8.
The fact is, the IT world is at an inflection point, where the traditional operating system for desktops is giving way to mobile devices. What does that mean? Well, to some extent, it means that users may not be interested in upgrading their home PCs, but in another way, maybe Microsoft’s bet on creating an across-the-board O/S like Windows 8m, which works on mobile devices as well as traditional desktops and laptops, will prove to be a great leap forward.
